The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, invites law students from across the country to participate in the 28th Annual H.M. Seervai Essay Competition in Constitutional Law. Renowned as one of India’s most prestigious essay competitions, it offers participants the chance to win the H.M. Seervai Gold Medal by NLSIU. The winning essay will also secure publication in the esteemed National Law School Journal.

'How should Indian Election Law be amended to strengthen Indian constitutional democracy?’


Who Can Participate?

This competition is open to students enrolled in any of the following programs at a recognised law school, college or university in India:

  • LL.B.

  • B.A., LL.B.

  • BBA, LL.B.

  • B.Com., LL.B.


Submission Guidelines

Participants are required to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Essays must be original, unpublished, and single-authored.

  • Submissions should clear anti-plagiarism checks and be supported by a bona fide certificate signed by the Registrar, Vice-Chancellor or an equivalent authority.

  • Format: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced, and formatted on A4 sheets.

  • Referencing Style: OSCOLA citation style.

  • Word Limit: 7,000–10,000 words (inclusive of footnotes).

  • Language: English.

  • Submission Deadline: April 15, 2025

  • Selected candidates may be invited for interviews at the discretion of NLSIU.
